SES and MagtiCom, the Georgian mobile and telecommunication company, announce the launch of MagtiSat, Georgia's first domestic direct-to-home (DTH) satellite platform, via ASTRA, 31.5 gr. East. The pay-TV offer will be available beginning January 23, 2012. MagtiSat will offer 75 TV channels that include the most popular standard definition (SD) and high-definition (HD) channels.
Uplinked from Moscow, and located at 90°E, GlobeCast's distribution platform on Yamal-201 will offer FTA (Free-to-Air) or encrypted channels very wide coverage from Eastern Europe to east of Japan, and from North China up to Siberia.
Eutelsat is unifying the names of its satellites with the Eutelsat brand. As of March 1st 2012 the Group’s satellites will all take the Eutelsat name, with the relevant figure for their orbital position and a letter indicating their order of arrival at that position. This logical pattern will enable our user community to immediately identify where a satellite is located and its chronology at the neighbourhood it occupies.
Current in-orbit satellites will be renamed as follows: W6 at 21.5° East, for example, will become EUTELSAT 21A. The future W6A satellite will become EUTELSAT 21B. To ensure clarity, satellites at Eutelsat’s four West positions will include West in their name. For example, ATLANTIC BIRD™ 2 will become EUTELSAT 8 West A.
The transfer of all traffic, including over 480 television channels, onto W3C from the EUROBIRD™ 16, W2M and SESAT 1 satellites was completed this morning by Eutelsat’s control centre, working in close collaboration with clients and providers of uplink services.
